HISTORY OF WVSU (CAIC) LIBRARY
In 1947, Calinog High School was established through the efforts and leadership of former Iloilo Provincial Boeard Member Col. Julian M. Chavez and former Mayor Jose M. Celo. As a regional high school, it exemplified commitment to serve its students through important school facilities, among which was the School Library which was established in 1968. The present School Cafeteria served as the library during that time with Mrs. Primitiva P. Limson as the first Librarian.
In the early 1960s, shifting from academic to vocational education, CALHI became Calinog Agricultural and Industrial School. The School then offered courses in Agriculture and Vocational education.
In the year 1974, the School Librarian was Mrs. Avelina Santillan replacing Mrs. Limson who transferred to other school. The bulk of the library content then was mostly for Agriculture & Vocational Studies. In 1976, Mrs. Maternidad T. Cachuela was appointed Librarian to assist the School Librarian. But in 1980, due to the increase in enrollment, she was given a full time teaching load, Mrs. Shirley Castaños, the present Librarian then took over. With the increasing number of students both in high school and in college, the Calinog Agricultural and Industrial School was elevated to a tertiary level. The College therefore had separate libraries for the high school and for the college. Mrs. Avelina Santillan, being the School Librarian was assigned in the College Library while Mrs. Shirley Castaños with a librarian designation was assigned in the high school. In 1987, the College Library was constructed adjacent to the College Building, while the High School Library occupied one room at the VO-AG Bldg.
In 1999, the College and High School Libraries were housed in the same building but with separate areas. Specifically, a quarter of the College Library was given to the High School.
As the College progresses, new course offerings have been added such as Computer Science, Hotel and Restaurant Management and Education for obvious reason, the number of books especially in college has increased.
On August 22, 2000 CAIC was integrated to West Visayas State University which became official in 2001. WVSU-Calinog, signed MOA with DepEd retransfer of some personal assets and liabilities.
As of now the library is getting a more significant stride towards excellence. The volumes of books have been increased not only in Agriculture but also in Computer Study, Literature, Psychology, Philosophy, Research, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Technology, Science, Mathematics and Unpublished Undergraduate and Graduate Thesis.
Mrs. Castaños who was designated as College Librarian II in June 2001 when Mrs. Santillan retired, has taken charged of the improvement of the College Library.
On April 18, 2005 Miss Dinna Joy Otayde was hired as the new College Librarian. Through the effort of the present College Librarian and the support of the administration the library performs effectively and efficiently towards the attainment of excellence in line with instruction, research, extension and production.
